One of the most crucial aspects of starting a business – besides creating the look and feel, working on a logo, designing a website and refining your product or service – is having a solid and resolute brand voice. These are my top tips and also a free downloadable checklist to help you find your unique brand voice.

There are 3 main reasons why brand voice is important to your business:

1. Trust: A clearly defined brand voice creates a sense trust with your ideal client and allows your reader to identify and form an emotional connection with your brand.

2. It sets you apart: Having a unique brand voice will differentiate you from your competitors.

3. Influence your customers: Much the same as imagery, you can use your brand voice to persuade your customers that you are the right person for the job.

There are three simple things to keep in mind when working on your brand voice:

A: Define your voice in three words

Is it friendly, formal, spontaneous? Do you use slang? Is there a specific word that you love using or do you prefer a romantic tone? Write down three words that express your brand personality best and always keep it in mind while writing.

B: Write as if you are talking to a friend

Imagine sitting down with a friend and talking about the holiday you just had. How would your brand personality be expressed? Which words would you use? Keep this in mind once you start writing social media posts, website copy or blog posts and you will automatically start to create copy that sounds more natural and authentic.

C: Keep it consistent

Creating a strong, trustworthy and honest brand voice is all about consistency! Keeping your brand voice consistent across all elements will make your business memorable, create trust and establish your brand as an authority.

Now, move on to this free downloadable checklist to help you find your unique brand voice, keeping all of the above mentioned points in mind.
